This sterling silver necklace is more than just a star of David design. This is the special star/butterfly necklace. With mini magnets set into the joints, the star, with a light pull to separate, will open to look like a butterfly. The significance is that during the time of the Spanish Inquisition when it was forbidden to practice Judaism, the Marrano's--Anusim--Forced converts, would wear the necklace as a butterfly outside the house, but would then close it to form the star of David when home and out of the public eye. This was their resistance to the forced conversion by the church. The pendent measures .83" x .63" and comes with an 18" sterling silver chain.
