Most people lighting an electric menorah, in addition to fire safety, want to "show the flag" and will display the menorah on a window sill. Now the dilemma...does one light it left to right or right to left? My thinking is....

When displaying the menorah "to raise the flag,"light the menorah so that people viewing from outside see it correctly. Therefore--light the menorah by beginning at the extreme left for the first night and ending on the extreme right for the eighth night. Think English so from the outside the menorah will be lit correctly.

If the menorah is not on display for friends, neighbors or passerbys, then think Hebrew and begin on the right and work your way each night to the left.
