Meeting like-minded singles is daunting to say the least, but we've put together some helpful tips on how to meet other singles and resources to check out in helping you get started….

MAKE YOURSELF USEFUL: Volunteering is a great way to meet people.  Find an organization that interests you so you’re sure to meet other volunteers with whom you share common values.  JCorp in New York is non-religious, non-denominational and open to all Jewish young adults ages 18-28.  The good news is that they do not require long term commitments or training so you can volunteer as frequently or as you like.  Interested in Israel and politics?  Join AIPAC (American Israel Political Action Committee) and get involved.

JOIN AN ASSOCIATION: The Young Jewish Professionals (JYP) is not only a networking source but they also cater toward social opportunities for young Jewish professionals in their 20’s.

TAKE A CLASS: Hobby classes and special interest classes give you a great chance to meet men/women with whom you are likely to share a high degree of compatibility.  So…look for Jewish classes-whether religious or cultural.  Two great resources are the 92nd Street Y and the Center for Kosher Culinary Arts (what’s better than eating and drinking?) both of which are located in Manhattan.

ASK AROUND: Sometimes the simplest approach turns out to be the most effective.  Ask family and friends to set you up.  New York’s metropolitan area is home to largest number of Jews in the world outside of Israel.  And remember, there is a lid for every pot.

LOG IN: Online dating does work.  In addition, there are many meet-up groups-try it…you might like it.  Below is a sampling of these online sites.

MEETUP (meetup.com): As founder, Scott Heiferman puts it—“you connect with friends on facebook; linkedin connects you with professional contacts; twitter connects you with Ashton Kutcher; and Meetup connects you with the people who are doing the things you want to do.”  The meetups are face to face gatherings.  It’s like old school meets internet.  Meetups are organized by members for members and you go online to see what’s happening in your area.  There are currently 20 million Meetup members and there is a meetup for just about anything and anyone.  Events all in all 5 boroughs and around the world.

JRETROMATCH (jretromatch.com): An online dating service and Jewish matchmaking service all in one. They help Jewish singles of various ages, backgrounds, cultures and interests find their match – be they Conservadox, Conservative, Reform, secular, unaffiliated, single parent, divorcee, widow, young or old.
